Your Big Break in a Nutshell
On March the 5th the winning film will be announced. Be sure you tune into see the world television premiere of that film just before the 2010 Spirit Awards on the Independent Film Channel at 8:00 p.m. PT/11:00 p.m. ET. Here’s a quick recap of what the Your Big Break contest was all about:
- First, we asked amateur filmmakers to write a three-minute screenplay on how they would ‘Capture the spirit of 100% Pure New Zealand - the youngest country on earth’.
- The screenplays came rolling in, alongside 60-second video pitches that brought the ideas to life.
- All 1,000+ screenplays were assessed by a panel of experts including Academy Award®-winning producers, editors and filmmakers.
- Five finalists were chosen, including one people’s choice entry based on the number of votes it received from the general public.
- Those five finalists were flown to New Zealand in February 2010. They had three weeks to pre-produce, shoot and post-produce their idea to the budget of NZ$100,000, with the help of a small crew and Peter Jackson’s post-production facilities, Park Road Post Production, in Wellington.
- The five completed three-minute films were then viewed and judged by Peter Jackson.
- The winning film debuts on US television right before the IFC Spirit Awards on Friday, March 5th at 8:00 p.m. PT/11:00 p.m. ET. Non US visitors can check out your-big-break.com – online or via mobile – after the award show to discover who created the winning film.
