WORKING DAY
By Andrés Borghi
Int. BEDROOM - Day
Close up of an alarm clock over a small night table. The clock sounds and someone turns it off inmediately with his hand.
Shot of William from above. He is lying down in his bed with the hand over the clock. He hasn’t openend his eyes yet. He rubs his face with his hands trying to wake up. He suddenly gets up.
Int. BATHROOM – Day.
Shot of William reflexed in the mirror. He washes his teeth. He is very sleepy but is able to resist it. It is part of his everyday routine. He wears a white tank top and a pair of jeans.
Int. KITCHEN – Day.
Long shot of the kitchen. William has a breakfast of coffee and toasts. His kitchen is small and humble but tidy.
Int. ENTRANCE – Day.
Close shot of a yellow hardhat hanging on the wall. William takes it.
Long shot of William. He wears a blue shirt over the tank top. He puts the hardhat on and picks up a tool box from the floor. He walks out the front door. The blinding daylight doesn’t allow to see what’s outside.
Ext. CLOUDY VALLEY – Day
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
The landscape is beautiful: An enormous valley between mountains with big clouds moving slowly at low height. Something sounds in the distance: A bunch of strong metallic hits.
Ext. WATERFALL – Day
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
the water in the waterfall runs wildly. There are no signs of human life. The metallic hits sound closer.
Ext. VALLEY BETWEEN MOUNTAINS – Day.
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
Another deserted green valley. The metallic hits sound very close, like a huge hammer hiting over and over: BANG! BANG! BANG!
Ext. LAKESIDE MOUNTAIN – Day.
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
Long shot of William. He is standing next to a beautiful rock mountain. The man is more than 100 meters tall and hits the mountain with a chisel and a hammer carving it. The huge pieces of rock fly far away. William puts down his tools and observes the progress. Then he takes the tools again and goes on with the work.
Ext. SNOWY MOUNTAIN RANGE - Day
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
Middle shot of William. The giant man walks by an imponent mountain range barely smaller than him. He shakes a big paper bag from which snow comes down and covers the mountain's peaks.
Ext. BEACHSIDE FOREST – Day.
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
Long shot. William holds a lawnmower over the forest’s trees. He pairs the trees off like a huge gardener.
Ext. COAST - Day
(Aerial footage provided by “Your Big Break”)
Long shot. William holds a gigantic water hose, which is a normal sized water hose for him, standing next to the coast. He slowly fills the ocean with it.
(New footage from here)
Close shot of William. Something on the floor catches his attention.
Long shot of a young Maori staring at him from the floor. He looks small compared to William but he is sized like a normal person. He has a waka next to him., a canoe shaped maori craft that was dragged to the beach from the water. He stares at the giant with wide open eyes.
Close shot of William. He talks gently to the maori.
WILLIAM
Hello, little guy. I’m sorry but you weren’t supposed to be here yet. You see, it’s not finished...
William waves his hand around so the maori watches the place.
Close shot of the maori. He slowly reacts and nods his head keeping his eyes on William. He is still shocked by the imponent image of the giant in front of him.
Long shot of the maori. He turns around slowly while he takes the waka and starts leaving.
Close shot of William. He watches the maori leaving confused by his strange attitude. Then he goes back to work.
THE END

Hello, I'm Andrés. About my past work, I've done several short films in my country that won some prizes in national (and international) festivals. the most known of them is this one called Otakus:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF4MX0N9lnM
Besides of the funny story, the most relevant thing in the short film are the special fx. I also work doing postproduction fx and that's why i included some of those in my entry for "Your big break". I also did several videoclips for intedependent bands and even a videogame which can be found here:
http://www.theblackheart.com.ar
Well, I think that's all, i hope you enjoy my entry.

i only have one problem with this script, will the giant have a nz accent? great idea Andrés! welcome to new zealand.
Frances Macaulay Forde said...
I agree with P.D., the giant can't be a big white man... he needs to be 'Worldly' not 'Willima White'. Maybe Morag Browlie is right and he should be a big brusing Maori... but the newcomer stays as a young Maori boy.
But your 'comment' clears the discussion up making it a moot point.
So, I loved this (another) very clever and original concept and it'll be a fun film. The judges chose all the finalists well!
Enjoy your production - I know I will :o)

FROM THE AUTHOR OF THIS ENTRY TO THE JUDGES:
Hello! I'm Andrés. i'd like to add a little info on how I can achieve this script. I'd like to add this on the script itself but i would have to delete the entry, so I do it through this comment. As you've seen in the pitch, I appear as the actor portraying the giant working in New Zealand's landscape. I acted it myself because only 1 person travels to New Zealand. I had to have all the greenscreen material with the giant ready for the final film and some scenes including the same character (the interior scene that opens the script) have to be done in NZ. If I get the chance of going there t film, the character must be portrayed always by the same person so I'd be the only person being in the 2 places (here, filming the greenscren; and in NZ filming the rest). The greenscreen character will be added in the aerial footage provided by YBB once there. I'll carry the giant footage with me and i can add it to the aerial footage in 2 days of postproduction work within the "post" week. So, the interior scene is done in 1 location in 1 day. The "working" part is only posproduction so nothing needs to be filmed there. the only part left is the talk with the Maori. The footage of William talking is already filmed in greenscreen too. So we'd only need to film the Maori character doing his part. That would be 1 exterior day. So, resuming, It's only 2 scenes to shoot: 1 interior location and 1 exterior location (both pretty easy and simple).
thanks for reading :)
